Do I Need Part A and Part B of Medicare to Get a Illinois Medicare Supplement Insurance Plan?
In Illinois, as in every other state, you must have Medicare Parts A and B in order to purchase a Medicare supplement policy. Part A is hospital insurance. It covers inpatient care resulting from a hospital stay or skilled nursing facility and certain home health care and hospice care. Part B is medical insurance. This helps cover medically necessary services like regular doctor’s visits, outpatient care, home health services and durable medical equipment.
Mostly everyone receives Medicare Part A with no premium. However, Part B is generally deducted from Social Security if the individual is drawing and if not, then a quarterly premium notice will be sent out. Should you decide to include a Medigap policy as part of your health plan, you will be paying both the private insurance company for your Medicare supplement plan as well as Medicare for your Part B. Remember, a Medigap policy covers only one person at a time. Therefore, if you and your spouse are interested in purchasing Illinois Medicare supplement, you must each purchase separate policies.
